Defence for Children - ECPAT Netherlands is looking for an experienced project coordinator with expertise in the field of sexual violence, abuse or exploitation of children. Project Coordinator Sexual Exploitation (24-28 hours per week)

Defence for Children - ECPAT Netherlands promotes the rights of all children. We do this through research, capacity building, advocacy and legal advice, among others, in collaboration with our partners and where possible with children. We carry out our work in the Netherlands, but also in various countries worldwide through both the network of Defence for Children International and the network of ECPAT International. We partner with other organisations to achieve more together. At Defence for Children - ECPAT Netherlands, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the best interests of the child are the foundation and guiding principles of our work.

About the role

One such partnership is the Down to Zero alliance with Terre des Hommes, Plan Netherlands, Free a Girl, Conexión and Child Rights Coalition Asia. The Down to Zero alliance has been operating since 2015 to address sexual exploitation of children in countries in Asia and Latin America. This work has been financed by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and they have recently awarded the alliance with another 3-year grant to carry out the 'Stepping Up the Fight Against Sexual Exploitation of Children' (SUFASEC) project.

Defence for Children - ECPAT Netherlands is now looking for an experienced project coordinator to coordinate our role and activities for the implementation of the SUFASEC project. This role will work closely together with a project officer at Defence for Children - ECPAT Netherlands and the Manager Programmes and Projects for the implementation of this project. Advocacy and communication colleagues are also part of the project team. In addition, the role would sit on the Global Steering Committee with the other Alliance members and work closely with Alliance members and country partners.

What are you responsible for?

  • Coordinating Defence for Children - ECPAT Netherlands role in the SUFASEC project and ensuring implementation of activities on time and within budget;
  • Supporting our partners' work in 5 countries in Asia and Latin America, as well as ECPAT International;
  • Coordinating monitoring and reporting of our and our partners' work in line with requirements from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs;
  • Engaging at a strategic level and representing our partners as a member of the Global Steering Committee;
  • Strategic engagement with high level stakeholders to address child sexual exploitation;

What do you bring?

  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience with (international) projects;
  • Knowledge of and experience working on child sexual exploitation and/or sexual violence and abuse, and/or working in partnership with the private sector;
  • Experience working with partners overseas
  • Knowledge and working experience in project management (including budgeting processes)
  • Good understanding of developments in the field of child participation, child safeguarding, gender and intersectionality
  • Ability to provide strategic engagement and representation with (high-level) stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of and experience with planning, monitoring, and evaluation tools and systems
  • Experience working with IATI desirable
  • Excellent command of the English language and good command of the Spanish language in word an writing. Portuguese would be an additional asset.
  • Command of the Dutch language desirable (Defence for Children - ECPAT Netherlands largely operates in Dutch, though this is not required for this function).
  • Ability to be present and work in the Netherlands

What do we offer?

  • an employment contract for 24-28 hours per week for 12 months with the intention of extending for the duration of the 3-year project;
  • a dynamic working environment in the Children's Rights House in Leiden;
  • Partial working from home is possible in consultation;
  • a pro rata gross monthly salary between € 3,343 and € 4,172 depending on experience, based on a 36-hour working week;
